IPL 2027 Auction to Be Held in Goa in December, BCCI Confirms

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the IPL 2027 player auction will be held in Goa in December, bringing the event back to India after three consecutive editions were hosted overseas. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the decision on September 23.

The auction is expected to take place in mid-December, with December 15–16 emerging as the likely dates. However, the exact date has not yet been formally announced. The 2027 auction will be a mini-auction and is expected to be conducted as a one-day event.

The move marks the return of the IPL auction to Indian soil after the previous three editions were held in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi. The 2025 mega auction was held in Jeddah, while the auctions ahead of the 2024 and 2026 seasons were hosted in Dubai and Abu Dhabi respectively. The last auction held in India was in Kochi in 2023.

Speaking to ANI, Devajit Saikia, Secretary, BCCI, confirmed the decision, saying, “This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi last year, we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December.”

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal had earlier indicated that the BCCI wanted to bring the auction back to India. The smaller scale of this year’s mini-auction has helped make the move possible, particularly amid the logistical challenges of securing suitable venues during the busy December wedding season.

For the franchises, the December auction will provide an opportunity to address gaps in their squads following retentions, releases and trades. As the final auction of the current 2023–27 cycle, it will also form part of preparations for the 20th edition of the IPL in 2027.

The BCCI’s confirmation of Goa sets the stage for the next phase of squad-building ahead of IPL 2027, with the final auction date, venue details and player list expected to be announced separately.
