Tennis-ball cricket is set to get a new national platform with the launch of the Velocity Cricket League (VCL), a Pan-India franchise-based competition featuring eight city-based teams in a 15-over-per-side format.
Owned by SKV Ventures, VCL will bring together players from across the country through a nationwide trial programme, followed by a player auction through which the participating franchises will build their squads.
The league’s tentative franchise lineup includes Delhi Crown, Mumbai Invincibles, UP Unicorns, Bengal Bangers, Punjab Royals, Gujarat Bulls, Chennai Chargers and Bangaluru Magicians.
VCL will offer a total prize pool of ₹2 crore, covering team rewards as well as individual performance-based awards. The league will combine franchise-based competition with a 15-over format, nationwide trials and an auction-based player selection process.
VCL will conduct player trials across major cities in India, providing tennis-ball cricketers with an opportunity to compete for selection in one of the eight franchises.
Players who qualify through the trials will enter the league’s player pool. The franchises will then build their squads through an auction process.
The nationwide scouting programme will provide players from different regions with an opportunity to compete for a place on a national franchise platform.
With teams representing prominent cricket markets, VCL will combine city-based franchise representation with a national player recruitment system.
