Bihar Cabinet Approves ₹3,516 Crore Projects to Boost Tourism Infrastructure In Gaya

The Bihar Cabinet has approved projects worth ₹3,516 crore for Gaya, including the proposed Vishnupad Corridor and the Son–Falgu River Linking Project. The developments are aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure and improving facilities for visitors to the city.

The investment is expected to support Gaya’s position as an important destination for religious, spiritual and cultural tourism, while also improving the experience for the large number of pilgrims visiting the city every year.

The Vishnupad Temple complex development, estimated at ₹2,520 crore, will be modelled on the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi. The project aims to modernise facilities around the temple and improve infrastructure to accommodate the large influx of devotees visiting Gaya for Pind Daan rituals.

The Cabinet has also approved the ₹996.05-crore Son-Falgu River Linking Project. Under the project, an intake well is proposed to be constructed approximately 23 km upstream from Indrapuri Barrage.

The projects are expected to create opportunities across Gaya’s wider visitor economy, benefiting hotels, tour operators, transport providers and other tourism businesses. Improved infrastructure and visitor facilities could also support the city’s long-term tourism development.

The approvals are part of a larger set of nearly 17 projects cleared by the Bihar Cabinet.

Alongside these projects, officials approved a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India to expand regional connectivity under the Modified UDAN Scheme.

The Cabinet also approved the Bihar State Civil Aviation Cadre Recruitment Rules 2026, further supporting the state’s aviation and regional connectivity framework.

Together, the projects are expected to strengthen Gaya’s tourism infrastructure, connectivity and visitor economy, particularly around its religious and pilgrimage tourism offerings.
