Gorillaz, the virtual band created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, will add Guwahati as the third stop on their debut India tour. Produced and exclusively ticketed by District, The Mountain Tour will see Gorillaz perform at Sarusajai Sports Complex (Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium) on January 31, 2027, in collaboration with Assam Tourism. The tour is presented by Jameson Ginger Ale and powered by Mastercard.
The Guwahati show follows previously announced performances in Bengaluru on January 23 and Mumbai on January 27. The addition of Guwahati marks the band’s first performance in the Northeast as part of their India tour.
The tour is linked to Gorillaz’ ninth studio album, The Mountain, which features collaborations and influences from India. Among the Indian artists associated with the album are Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, sons of sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan.
For Indian audiences, the tour will bring Gorillaz’ animated world of 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs to the live stage. Damon Albarn will perform with the Gorillaz live band and special guest performers, while Jamie Hewlett will bring the visual world of the band to life.
Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett said, “We’re really looking forward to our first Indian shows. The album came to life in India and is shaped by the many incredible musicians we met and worked with around the country. It was always our ambition to bring The Mountain back. We can’t wait to perform and experience the energy in Mumbai, Bengaluru and now, Guwahati.”
Shri Kumar Padmapani Bora, Managing Director (MD) of the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) said, “Assam is proud to welcome Gorillaz to Guwahati for their debut India tour. Hosting globally renowned artists not only enriches the cultural landscape of the region but also creates new opportunities for tourism, local businesses and the wider economy. We look forward to welcoming fans from across the country to experience the warmth and hospitality of Assam, while they witness this iconic band bring The Mountain Tour to life.”
Rahul Ganjoo, CEO, District said, “Adding Guwahati to The Mountain Tour is something we’re incredibly proud of. It reflects our commitment to bringing world class live entertainment acts like Gorillaz to India. The Northeast has an incredibly passionate music community, and we can’t wait for the audiences to witness this historic debut live.”
The addition of Guwahati also highlights the growing presence of large-scale live entertainment in the Northeast. Guwahati is increasingly emerging as a destination for major live events, supported by efforts to develop infrastructure and the ecosystem required to host international productions.
