Online ticketing and entertainment platform BookMyShow has entered into definitive agreements with global investment firm KKR for the latter to acquire a minority stake in the company, marking a significant investment in India’s rapidly expanding live entertainment ecosystem.
The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the transaction or specified whether the deal involves a primary capital infusion, a secondary share purchase, or a combination of both. According to a Reuters report citing a source familiar with the matter, KKR is expected to acquire an approximately 6% stake for between US$40 million and US$50 million. The reported transaction would imply a valuation of roughly US$667 million to US$833 million, although these figures have not been publicly confirmed by either company.
KKR Investment to Support BookMyShow’s Live Entertainment Ambitions
According to a joint statement from the companies, KKR’s investment will support BookMyShow’s next phase of growth as it scales its live entertainment business and deepens its full-stack entertainment offering across India.
The investment comes at a time when India’s live entertainment market is seeing growing consumer interest in concerts, international tours, sports, immersive experiences and large-scale cultural events. BookMyShow has increasingly expanded beyond its traditional movie-ticketing business, positioning itself as a broader entertainment discovery and ticketing platform.
Its live entertainment arm, BookMyShow Live, has been particularly active in bringing international and large-format music properties to India. The platform is currently handling ticketing for major upcoming tours, including Fred again..’s India tour and Foo Fighters’ Take Cover Tour, alongside a growing slate of concerts and live experiences.
Reuters noted that BookMyShow has also been involved with major international artists and events, including concerts by Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Travis Scott, underlining the scale of the company’s ambitions in the live entertainment segment.
From Movie Tickets to a Full-Stack Entertainment Platform
Founded in 2007 by Ashish Hemrajani, Parikshit Dar and Rajesh Balpande, BookMyShow began as an online ticketing platform and has since evolved into a multi-category entertainment business covering movies, live events, concerts, sports and experiences.
The company operates across India and has expanded internationally into markets including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the UAE and Sri Lanka.
BookMyShow’s evolution has also been supported by a series of investments from prominent financial and strategic investors. The company has raised approximately US$224.5 million to date, with investors including Elevation Capital, Accel, Stripes Group, Network18 and TPG Growth. Its US$100 million Series D round in 2018 was led by TPG Growth.
Live Entertainment Emerges as a Key Growth Engine
The latest investment reflects the growing importance of live entertainment within BookMyShow’s broader business strategy. The company has been steadily building capabilities across concerts, sports, theatre, experiential entertainment and international events.
BookMyShow Live was incorporated as a separate entity in 2018 and has become an important part of the group’s live-events strategy. Available company data indicates that BookMyShow Live recorded operating revenue of more than ₹500 crore in FY2025, highlighting the increasing scale of the business.
The company’s current event pipeline also illustrates the breadth of the segment. Its platform is facilitating ticketing for major international and domestic properties, while its live business continues to expand its presence across music and entertainment experiences.
KKR Investment Comes Amid Intensifying Competition
The deal also comes as competition in India’s online entertainment-ticketing market intensifies. BookMyShow faces an evolving competitive landscape, with platforms such as Eternal’s District expanding their entertainment offerings and Walmart-owned Flipkart reportedly preparing to enter the ticketing space.
For BookMyShow, KKR’s investment could provide additional financial and strategic backing as the company looks to strengthen its position across the entertainment value chain — from discovery and ticketing to live-event production and experiences.
With consumer spending increasingly shifting toward experiences and live entertainment, the investment signals continued institutional confidence in the long-term potential of India’s entertainment economy. For BookMyShow, the next phase could see an even sharper focus on live experiences, international properties and building a comprehensive entertainment ecosystem beyond the cinema ticket.
