The event industry has always been measured by moments.
A packed auditorium. A standing ovation. A product launch that dominates social media. An exhibition that opens new markets. For decades, success has been judged by what happens while the lights are on.
Perhaps it is time we asked a different question.
What remains after the lights go out?
Climate change has fundamentally altered the way businesses think about growth. Customers, investors and employees increasingly expect organisations to create value that extends beyond commercial outcomes. Every industry is being asked to examine not only its contribution to the economy, but also its contribution to society and the environment.
The experiential industry is no exception.
Events are, by their very nature, temporary. We build remarkable spaces that exist for a few hours or a few days. People travel, materials are transported, structures are erected and
dismantled. As an industry, we have made significant strides in reducing waste—using energy-efficient equipment, replacing flex with reusable fabric wherever possible, adopting cleaner power solutions and continually rethinking production practices.
Yet we also recognise an uncomfortable truth: despite our best intentions, some environmental impact is inevitable.
The answer, however, is not perfection. The answer is responsibility.
That belief has inspired a new initiative at Vibgyor called Experiences That Grow.
Beginning this year, every invoice generated by our company will result in three trees being planted on behalf of the client. Every participating client will also receive a Certificate of
Contribution—not as a marketing souvenir, but as a reminder that every project can leave behind something that continues to grow.
More importantly, we wanted this commitment to be real, measurable and transparent.
That is why Vibgyor has partnered with SankalpTaru Foundation, one of India’s leading
environmental organisations working in afforestation and ecosystem restoration. With more than 11 million trees planted across the country, technology-enabled geotagging, satellite monitoring and long-term impact tracking, SankalpTaru ensures that tree plantation is not merely a ceremonial act but a living commitment that can be monitored over time.
We make no claim that planting three trees erases the environmental footprint of an event. Sustainability is far more complex than that. It demands better design, smarter logistics, responsible sourcing and continuous innovation across the entire value chain.
But complexity should never become an excuse for inaction.
Every meaningful movement begins with a decision that is simple enough to be repeated consistently.
Business has always evolved through the accumulation of small choices. One organisation
changes a process. Another adopts a better practice. Eventually those choices become the new normal.
Imagine if every event agency, production company, exhibition organiser and venue committed to one measurable environmental action for every project they undertook. The cumulative
impact would not be counted in campaigns or hashtags. It would be counted in millions of living trees, healthier ecosystems and communities that benefit long after an event has concluded.
That is the future we should be working towards.
At Vibgyor, we have spent more than two decades creating experiences that inspire conversations, celebrate ideas and bring people together.
With Experiences That Grow, we hope every experience can also leave behind something quieter, more enduring and infinitely more valuable.
After all, the true legacy of an event should not be measured only by the applause it receives. It should also be measured by what continues to grow long after the audience has gone home.
