Gorillaz Honour Asha Bhosle at Sold-Out Tottenham Stadium Show Ahead of India Debut

Fresh off a successful 13-date tour across the UK and Ireland, Gorillaz delivered a landmark performance at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, marking the virtual band’s first-ever stadium headline show. The sold-out concert also gave Indian audiences a preview of what they can expect when The Mountain Tour arrives in Mumbai and Bengaluru in January 2027.

The evening celebrated the global musical influences behind Gorillaz’s acclaimed album The Mountain, with Indian music and culture playing a central role. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett brought the iconic band to life alongside the 13-piece Gorillaz live band and 24 guest performers representing more than 15 countries.

One of the most memorable moments of the night saw Zanai Bhosle join Damon Albarn on stage for a special performance of The Shadowy Light, paying tribute to the legendary Asha Bhosle, whose vocals feature on the album. The performance highlighted the enduring legacy of one of India’s most celebrated singers before a packed stadium audience.

Indian representation continued throughout the show, with renowned bansuri virtuoso Ajay Prasanna performing live with the band. The contribution of pioneering jazz icon Asha Puthli to the album track The Mooncave was also celebrated as part of the production. The Mountain features a distinguished lineup of Indian collaborators, including Asha Bhosle, Anoushka Shankar, Ajay Prasanna, Asha Puthli, and sarod maestros Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash.

The event also attracted BBC India, which conducted interviews with Zanai Bhosle, Asha Puthli, Ajay Prasanna, Damon Albarn, and Jamie Hewlett. The coverage is expected to be released later this week.

Damon Albarn said, “Thank you so much for attending this mass gathering of multi-cultural, multi-generational music, we appreciate you.”

Jamie Hewlett said, “We are all one under the sun.”

Known for their genre-defying sound and immersive live performances, Gorillaz have built a global following over the last 25 years with hits including Feel Good Inc., Clint Eastwood, On Melancholy Hill, DARE, Dirty Harry, Stylo, and many more.

For Indian fans, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium show served as an exciting preview of the spectacle set to arrive in the country next year.
