The inaugural edition of the Sikkim International Film Festival (SIFF) began on a high note with a spectacular gala red carpet premiere in Gangtok, marking a significant cultural moment for the state. The opening evening brought together a diverse mix of national icons, international delegates, and emerging voices from the world of cinema, with an opening session master class with Imtiaz Ali in conversation with Supriya Suri, Founder of Creative Economy Forum, Film Maker & Producer.

The prestigious ceremony was attended by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang Golay, along with his spouse and former MLA Smt. Krishna Kumari Rai. Senior government officials, including the Secretary of Information & Public Relations (IPR) and Press Secretary Yogan Tamang, were also present, highlighting strong state support for the festival.

The event saw participation from an esteemed delegation of filmmakers and industry professionals from Bhutan, Nepal, and across India. The red carpet featured prominent names from the film and media industry, including filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, film critic and producer Rajeev Masand, Bhawna Menon, Nitin Tej Ahuja, Supriya Suri, and Cuckoo Parameswaran.

Adding regional depth to the festival were indigenous filmmakers such as Tribeni Rai, Prashant Rasaily, and Samten Bhutia, who represent the rich storytelling traditions of Sikkim and the Eastern Himalayas. Their presence underscored SIFF’s focus on celebrating local narratives alongside global cinema.
Set against the scenic beauty of Gangtok, the evening blended glamour with cultural pride. Beyond the star-studded appearances, the red carpet premiere reflected the festival’s larger vision of encouraging creative exchange, meaningful dialogue, and regional storytelling.
With a strong and inspiring opening, the Sikkim International Film Festival sets the stage for what aims to become a long-standing celebration of cinema, culture, and community in the region.
