Sikkim Arts and Literature Festival 2026 Set to Celebrate Culture, Creativity, and Dialogue in Gangtok

The second edition of the Sikkim Arts and Literature Festival (SALF 2026) is set to take place from 26th to 28th April 2026 at Ridge Park in Gangtok, bringing together a vibrant mix of literature, art, and cultural dialogue in the Eastern Himalayas.

Presented by the Students’ Welfare Board, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, in association with Teamwork Arts, the event aims to celebrate creativity while showcasing voices from Sikkim, the North East, India, and across the globe.

Designed as a platform for dialogue and artistic exploration, SALF 2026 will feature panel discussions, literary conversations, workshops, poetry readings, music performances, and cultural showcases. The festival seeks to highlight Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage while connecting it with wider national and international perspectives.

An initiative of Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), the festival reflects a vision to promote creative expression, nurture young talent, and position Sikkim as a growing hub for literature and the arts.

Aditya Golay, Member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Soreng-Chakung, said, “Sikkim has always been a land of extraordinary beauty, deep culture, and rich tradition. Through the Sikkim Arts and Literature Festival, we are creating a dialogue between our past and our future, between our people and the world, and between the stories we have always told and the stories we are yet to tell. This festival will place Sikkim on the world map as one of the most sought-after destinations for literature, art, and creativity. The world will come here, and when they do, they will find a Sikkim that is ready to inspire them.”

Sonam Chopel Sherpa, Chairman, Students’ Welfare Board, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, said, “The Students’ Welfare Board is proud to be at the heart of this initiative. We believe that the foundation of a strong and self-reliant Sikkim lies not only in academic learning but also in creative exploration and artistic expression. SALF 2026 provides our young people a platform to engage with world-class writers, artists, and thinkers, fostering a culture of creativity, critical thinking, and confidence. This festival represents our commitment to building a future where art, literature, and culture are engines of opportunity and growth for our youth.”

Syed Shams Jawaid, Festival Producer, Vice President, Festivals & Special Projects, Teamwork Arts, said, “Partnering with the Government of Sikkim and the Students’ Welfare Board, we are honoured to bring this vision to life. SALF 2026 is a festival of hope, creativity, and dialogue. It is where young voices meet established artists and thinkers, where ideas are exchanged, and where cultural traditions are celebrated and reimagined. This is a festival that crosses boundaries of language, geography, and tradition, reflecting Sikkim’s position as a vibrant and inclusive cultural destination.”

The festival will explore a wide range of themes including climate change, environmental awareness, wildlife conservation, biodiversity, oral traditions, heritage, history, folklore, architecture, mental health, fiction, and young adult literature.

With a strong focus on youth engagement, SALF 2026 aims to create opportunities for students, emerging writers, and young artists to interact with established voices through workshops, mentoring sessions, and participatory experiences.

In addition to its cultural programming, the festival is expected to boost Sikkim’s cultural tourism by attracting visitors from across India and internationally, positioning Gangtok as a destination that blends natural beauty with rich artistic and intellectual traditions.

SALF 2026 marks an important step in Sikkim’s cultural journey, offering a platform that celebrates heritage while embracing modern ideas and global exchange.
