Government Showcases India’s Living Tribal Heritage with Tribes Art Fest 2026 in New Delhi

India’s diverse tribal art traditions are taking centre stage in the national capital with the Tribes Art Fest (TAF) 2026, a 12-day cultural showcase organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Hosted in New Delhi from March 2 to March 13, the festival highlights the country’s vibrant indigenous visual traditions while creating a platform for tribal artists to engage with collectors, curators, designers and the wider public.

Positioned as one of the most comprehensive exhibitions of tribal art in India, the festival brings together over 75 tribal artists and more than 1,000 artworks representing more than 30 distinct tribal art forms from across the country.

Inaugurated by Jual Oram, the event underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to promote indigenous culture while strengthening economic opportunities for tribal communities.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister emphasised that tribal art embodies centuries of knowledge and cultural expression and must be preserved and promoted as part of India’s cultural identity. The initiative also reflects a broader policy approach that integrates culture, enterprise and market access for tribal artists.

The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the National Gallery of Modern Art, bringing institutional support to the platform while connecting traditional artists with the contemporary art ecosystem.

While the exhibition remains the central attraction, Tribes Art Fest 2026 has been designed as an immersive cultural platform rather than a conventional art display.

The festival is part of a broader series of tribal-focused cultural initiatives taking place in New Delhi through March. These include the Living Roots Festival – Soundscapes of Tribal India and the Bharat Tribes Fest 2026, both aimed at celebrating indigenous music, craft traditions and entrepreneurship.

Together, these events seek to expand national awareness of tribal cultures while creating platforms that connect artists with markets, institutions and audiences. The initiative also aims to position tribal art not just as heritage but as a sustainable creative economy sector.

Beyond cultural celebration, Tribes Art Fest 2026 highlights the growing emphasis on empowering tribal communities through creative industries. By bringing artists, designers, galleries and cultural institutions together, the festival aims to transform traditional art practices into viable livelihood opportunities.
