The Government of Uttar Pradesh has signed a memorandum of understanding with AVW Global, led by former MotoGP rider Karel Abraham, to bring back MotoGP races and the Asia Road Racing Championship at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC).
The agreement marks a renewed push to position Greater Noida as a key destination on the international two-wheeler racing calendar. The planned return of MotoGP and the Asia Road Racing Championship is aimed at reigniting domestic and regional enthusiasm for premier motorcycle racing following a brief hiatus.
The partnership builds on the 2023 Indian Grand Prix, which drew significant attendance and highlighted India’s capacity to host global motorsport events. AVW Global’s experience in managing the Brno Circuit is expected to support upgrades at BIC across technology, operations and logistics to meet international race hosting standards.
Under the MoU, AVW Global will oversee operational execution, while the state government focuses on building a long-term motorsport ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative is expected to contribute to youth development programmes, tourism growth and employment generation in Greater Noida.
The development aligns with a fresh three-year agreement involving Dorna Sports and Liberty Media, as part of broader efforts to expand MotoGP’s footprint in India, the world’s largest two-wheeler market.
Following the setback in 2024, the new agreement signals a continued commitment to restoring India’s presence on the MotoGP calendar. The immediate focus will be on securing official race slots, with Greater Noida preparing to strengthen its position as a motorsport hub in North India.
