Aura Event & Experiences has curated and executed a first-of-its-kind pickleball tournament in Chennai, reimagining the sport as a large-scale experiential format that blended competitive play with culture, music and community engagement.
Designed as a full-day, carnival-style experience, the tournament featured a temporary pickleball court set against a seaside backdrop, alongside a 12,000 sq. ft. air-conditioned indoor arena. The format was built to shift how audiences engage with the rapidly growing sport, moving beyond conventional competition to create an immersive, spectator-led environment.
The event hosted up to 800 spectators and included VIP lounges and two professional courts. Programming extended beyond the matches, with DJs, live band performances and curated food stalls activating the venue as the day transitioned into evening. From morning matches to nightfall music, the experience was positioned as a convergence of sport, entertainment and social culture. The format emphasised community participation and social engagement, aligning with the growing demand for experiential sports events in urban India.
The Chennai tournament marks an expansion of Aura Event & Experiences’ work in experiential design, particularly in formats where sport intersects with live entertainment and cultural programming. The company said the activation reflects a broader shift towards building sports-led experiences that are inclusive, high-energy and designed for both on-ground and spectator engagement.
