Envelop Unveils ‘Tattva’, a Narrative-Led Wedding Reception Experience in Kolkata

Experiential design studio Envelop has introduced Tattva: A Cosmic Story of Love in Kolkata, reimagining the traditional wedding reception as an immersive, narrative-driven universe. Conceived as a bespoke, three-day experience, Tattva replaces conventional décor with storytelling, where design, movement, and atmosphere collectively guide guests through the celebration.

Staged in Kolkata, the concept draws from the ancient Indian philosophy of Panchabhuta—the five eternal elements of nature. The reception unfolds across five distinct realms—Vayu, Prithvi, Akash, Jal, and Agni—each representing a chapter in the journey of love and partnership. As guests move through the space, the narrative evolves from initial attraction and grounding trust to emotional fluidity and the climactic union.

Described by Envelop as a “design without precedence,” Tattva has been created entirely from scratch, moving away from off-the-shelf celebratory formats. Every element is customised, with no rented components, forming a cohesive ecosystem tailored to the philosophy and moment. The studio positions the experience as a symbolic journey mirroring human connection: from the lightness of Vayu to the transformative energy of Agni.

Sound design forms a central pillar of the experience. The musical programme opens with performances by Stebin Ben, setting the tone for the cosmic narrative. Day two features Sonu Nigam and Rahul Vaidya, aligning the performances with the Agni element through high-energy soundscapes.

Speaking about the inspiration behind Tattva, Jai Sharma, Founder, Envelop, said: “Kolkata has always held a special place in our journey. It has afforded us associations that have inspired us to push the design Envelop further. Tattva is testimony to that unbridled creative freedom. Rooted in the ancient philosophy of Panchabhuta, the experience translates unseen forces into a living, breathing space of light and emotion. For us, it’s not just about creating a setting, but about shaping a feeling, where design becomes a quiet language that blesses love, balance, and union.”

Envisioned as more than a wedding reception, Tattva brings Indian heritage into dialogue with contemporary, avant-garde design. Through immersive spatial storytelling, Envelop aims to redefine how modern celebrations are experienced, positioning design itself as the storyteller.
