Indian comedian and performer Zakir Khan has announced that he will be taking an extended break from stand-up comedy, revealing the update during his recent show in Hyderabad on January 18.
Zakir, who is currently touring with his show ‘Papa Yaar’, informed the audience that he is planning to step away from comedy for several years to focus on health and personal priorities. In a video clip from the show that has been circulating on Instagram, he is heard saying that the break could last until 2028–29 or even 2030.
“I’m going on a long, long break… Chaar-paanch saal ka break hai. Health wagairah sambhal lenge,” he said during the show, adding that there are a few things he wants to address during this period.
The comedian later confirmed the hiatus via an Instagram story on January 20, writing, “Every show is a celebration till 20th June… Mai bahut sheher nahi aa paunga, iss bar aap thoda takaluf utha kar aa jaiye. Thank you for the love.” He also indicated that his shows will continue until June 20, calling the remaining tour dates a celebration.
This isn’t the first time Khan has spoken about taking a break due to health issues. Last year, he had made a similar announcement and briefly paused his performances, citing long-term health concerns. After years of continuous touring and performing worldwide, he had shared that he had been feeling unwell for more than a year but continued working because it was “necessary at the time.”
Zakir Khan is currently nearing the end of the India leg of his ‘Papa Yaar’ tour, after which he is set to perform internationally in Dubai, Dublin, and the United States before concluding the tour.
