Mumbai Hosts Two-Day Carnatic Celebration with 7th Margazhi Mahotsavam

Mumbai is set to resonate with the timeless sounds of Carnatic music as Banyan Tree presents the 7th edition of Mumbai Margazhi Mahotsavam, bringing the spirit of the famed Chennai Music Season to the city. The two-day cultural festival will be held on Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Auditorium, from 10:00 am to 8:30 pm each day.

Aligned with the sacred month of Margazhi, the festival continues its long-standing endeavour to recreate the devotional, immersive, and elevating experience of Chennai’s celebrated music season for Mumbai’s discerning rasikas. Over the years, Mumbai Margazhi Mahotsavam has emerged as one of the city’s most anticipated cultural gatherings, offering a space where tradition, artistry, and spirituality converge.

Now in its seventh year, the festival features a thoughtfully curated line-up of senior maestros, acclaimed performers, and emerging talents. Audiences can look forward to a rich blend of vocal and instrumental performances, reflecting both classical depth and artistic diversity. The programme spans a wide range of expressions, including vocals, violin, flute, guitar, nadaswaram, and scholarly discourse, creating a holistic Carnatic music experience.

Adding to the cultural ambience is a day-long canteen facility serving authentic South Indian cuisine, including traditional delicacies and filter coffee, enhancing the festival’s Margazhi-inspired atmosphere.

Artist Line-up

Day 1 – Saturday, January 10, 2026
The opening day will feature vocal performances by the Trichur Brothers, accompanied by Akshay Anantapadmanabhan on mridangam and S. Janardhan on violin. The day will also include a Nadaswaram Ensemble led by Yalppanam P. S. Balamurugan along with three accompanying artists.

Renowned guitarist R. Prasanna will perform with K. V. Prasad on mridangam. Vocalist Nithyasree Mahadevan will be accompanied by Delhi Sairam and M. A. Krishnaswamy. The evening will conclude with a violin duet by Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, accompanied by B. Harikumar and V. Suresh.

Day 2 – Sunday, January 11, 2026
The second day will open with a discourse by Dushyanth Sridhar. Flute maestro Sruthi Sagar will perform with K. V. Prasad. Vocalist Bharat Sundar will be accompanied by Sai Giridhar and L. Ramakrishnan.

Legendary violinist A. Kanyakumari will perform with K. V. Prasad and a student accompanist. The festival will culminate with a vocal concert by the celebrated duo Ranjani–Gayatri, accompanied by Sai Giridhar, L. Ramakrishnan, and Anirudh Athreya.

With two days of immersive performances, devotional raagams, vibrant taalams, and culinary delights, the 7th Mumbai Margazhi Mahotsavam promises to be a soulful celebration of Carnatic music in the heart of the city.
