Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2026 Returns to South Mumbai from January 31 to February 8

South Mumbai is set to once again transform into a vibrant canvas of creativity as the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2026 returns to the city from January 31 to February 8, 2026. Celebrating its 26th anniversary, the nine-day festival will take over the historic Fort precinct, bringing together art, music, theatre, literature, film, design, and community-led cultural experiences.

What began in 1999 as a small neighbourhood initiative has evolved into one of Asia’s largest multidisciplinary street art festivals, attracting thousands of visitors from across India and abroad every year. Each winter, the Kala Ghoda precinct comes alive with colour, performances, exhibitions and conversations, turning everyday streets into an open-air cultural playground.

The festival unfolds across the Kala Ghoda precinct in Fort, South Mumbai, a walkable district known for its rich colonial-era architecture and cultural institutions. Instead of being confined to a single venue, events and installations are spread across streets, gardens, lawns and heritage spaces, inviting visitors to discover creativity around every corner.

Prominent landmarks within the festival zone include the Jehangir Art Gallery, University of Mumbai buildings, the David Sassoon Library, and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, all of which form part of the festival’s cultural landscape.

How to Reach Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2026

By Train:
Mumbai’s suburban railway network offers the most convenient access. The nearest stations are Churchgate Railway Station, located about a 5–10 minute walk away, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), approximately a 15–20 minute walk from the precinct. Both stations are well-connected to major local train lines across the city.

By Road:
Taxis, app-based cabs and auto-rickshaws can drop visitors directly at the Kala Ghoda precinct. However, traffic congestion is common during festival days, especially on weekends. Parking near the main venues is limited, making public transport or drop-offs a more convenient option.

With its blend of heritage, contemporary creativity and community participation, the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2026 is expected to once again be a major cultural highlight on Mumbai’s winter calendar.
