‘Wed In India’: PM Modi Pushes India as Premium Wedding Destination, Highlights Uttarakhand’s Rising Appeal

In the latest edition of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged wedding planners and Indian families— especially affluent households — to choose India for weddings instead of opting for foreign destinations. Emphasising the idea of “Wed In India,” he appealed that at least one wedding in every family should be planned within the country to support local communities and strengthen the domestic economy.

The Prime Minister highlighted Uttarakhand as a standout example of India’s growing potential as a premier destination for winter weddings. He noted that picturesque locations such as Auli, Munsyari, Chopta and Dayara are witnessing a surge in tourist interest, particularly during the winter season.

He pointed out that recent improvements in connectivity, infrastructure and hospitality facilities have made Uttarakhand a preferred choice for both weddings and tourism. He said the serene landscapes, snow-clad mountains and spiritual ambience along the Ganga create an unforgettable setting for celebrations.

He added that destination weddings in states like Uttarakhand not only create memorable experiences for families but also boost regional economies, support local jobs and uplift small businesses.

Describing the winter charm of the Himalayas—with snow-covered peaks, clear sunlight and misty valleys — he encouraged citizens to explore and celebrate the beauty and cultural richness India has to offer, especially when planning weddings.
