A specialised Capacity Building Training Programme for hotel housekeeping professionals was organised in Coimbatore as part of the Ministry of Tourism’s renewed efforts to reposition its regional offices as catalysts for convergence and enhancers of visitor experience. The initiative aligns with the Ministry’s broader mandate to strengthen stakeholder engagement and elevate service standards across India’s tourism ecosystem.
The programme was conducted jointly by the Southern Regional Office of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department (Coimbatore), and SKAL International Coimbatore Chapter at Hotel IKON by Annapoorna. Held under the theme “Best Practices in Housekeeping,” the workshop brought together 75 housekeeping professionals representing 25 hotels from Coimbatore, Valparai, and Pollachi.
Addressing the participants, Shri D. Venkatesan, Regional Director (South), Ministry of Tourism, underscored the growing importance of sustainable housekeeping practices, enhanced guest satisfaction frameworks, and emerging trends shaping the modern hospitality sector. The technical session was led by Dr. Eugene, Lecturer at IHM Chennai, who covered global best practices, innovative housekeeping techniques, and practical demonstrations. His session received an enthusiastic response for its hands-on relevance and industry-focused insights.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Smt. T. Jegatheswari, District Tourist Officer, emphasised that service quality plays a decisive role in shaping a destination’s image and directly influences tourism growth and brand perception.
Participants shared positive feedback, highlighting the programme’s usefulness and expressing interest in more such capacity-building initiatives. Indiatourism Chennai has announced plans to extend similar workshops to other Southern cities in partnership with industry associations and hospitality institutes.
The initiative is part of the Ministry of Tourism’s larger strategy to enhance India’s tourism competitiveness through skills development, deeper industry collaboration, and strengthened focus on visitor experience excellence.
