Blue Frog to Reopen in South Mumbai in Early 2026

Mumbai’s legendary live music venue, Blue Frog, is all set for a grand comeback in early 2026 at a new location in Ballard Estate. The news was confirmed by founder Mahesh Mathai, marking the return of one of India’s most influential cultural spaces that defined the country’s music scene through the 2010s.

After filing for bankruptcy in 2020, Blue Frog’s revival began in 2024 when Mahesh restructured the company and brought on board new partners — entrepreneurs and longtime musicians Suresh Bhojwani and Karan Bhojwani, along with veteran music programmer and electronic artist Jehan Johar. Together, they aim to reimagine Blue Frog for a new generation while staying true to its legacy of live, quality music.

The upcoming venue will be located within the international cruise terminal complex at Ballard Pier in South Mumbai. Designed to merge contemporary architecture with the city’s maritime heritage, the new space is expected to offer a unique experience that blends music, art, and atmosphere in true Blue Frog fashion.

Speaking about the relaunch, Mahesh shared that the decision stemmed from the surging demand for live music in India. “When we started Blue Frog, if you had told me that Coldplay would have six concerts in India and U2 would be playing here, I would have said, ‘No chance.’ But today, it’s clear that people are eager to experience live international music.”

Known for pioneering India’s live music culture, Blue Frog originally opened in 2007 and quickly became a landmark for artists and audiences alike. It hosted some of the biggest names in Indian independent music as well as international acts, and was celebrated for its cutting-edge sound, circular “pod” seating, and eclectic programming.

The new Blue Frog promises to retain the same creative energy while evolving with the times — showcasing diverse genres, discovering fresh talent, and curating global collaborations. With India’s concert and festival scene now thriving, the relaunch signals a new era for live music in Mumbai.
