Femme Music Launches Nyima Records to Spotlight Female Indie Artists in India

Femme Music, the country’s only record label dedicated exclusively to developing female indie artists, has announced plans to release music under its new flagship sub-label, Nyima Records.

Nyima Records aims to be a home for female voices in pop, indie, and singer-songwriter genres. Its debut release, “Nyima Vol. 1”, is a compilation featuring 11 female artists from across India performing original English songs that showcase a fresh, global-facing Indian music identity. The compilation is set to release on November 28, 2025.

The label was co-founded by music producer and audio engineer Sanoli Chowdhury and industry veteran Vinod Gadher, who share a vision of redefining the narrative around South Asian female artists and creating pathways for Indian talent in the international music ecosystem. Inspired by the feminist ethos of the 90s Riot Grrrl movement, Femme Music seeks to empower female artists to lead, own their stories, and build sustainable careers both in India and abroad.

“The vision of developing female indie artists and helping them build sustainable careers really resonated with me. Artists today are often judged by numbers and lack proper management support. Femme Music will guide them not just in management and bookings, but also in publishing and copyright protection,” said Sanoli.

Femme Music has partnered with AWAL for global distribution and PRS for Music in the UK, while also overseeing mixing and mastering for all tracks. Sanoli and Gadher emphasize a hands-on approach, assisting artists with everything from technical riders to sound development.

Nyima Vol.1 will feature singer-songwriters at varying stages of their careers, from newcomers to musicians with over a decade of experience. “We’re drawn to talent in its most organic form. It’s individuality and personal interpretation of music that sets an artist apart, far beyond genre,” Sanoli added.

Artists featured on Nyima Vol.1 include Aanchal Bordoloi, Aadya Jaswal, Anjali Manoharan, kokum, Meera Desai, Ro Maiti, ruhdabeh, Sahana Naresh, Tabitha Kagoo, Tiana Tara, and Zahrah.
