Designer Anurag Gupta took the runway at Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI by storm with the unveiling of his latest collection, “Ode to Hokusai” — a masterful fusion of art, design, and science that redefines the boundaries of contemporary Indian fashion.
Inspired by the legendary Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, Gupta’s collection translates the fluidity and energy of Hokusai’s iconic waves into bold, architectural silhouettes and experimental surfaces. The result is a line that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation, presenting fashion as both sculpture and story.

About the Collection
“Ode to Hokusai” pays homage to the Japanese master’s study of motion and form, reimagined through an Indian lens. The collection uses hybrid materials, sharp tailoring, and layered textures to transform garments into moving artworks. Each ensemble challenges conventional aesthetics while honoring craftsmanship, making it a defining moment for both Anurag Gupta’s creative journey and the modern Indian design landscape.

A Revolutionary Textile Collaboration
In a groundbreaking partnership with IIT Delhi incubation and IndigoTex, Gupta introduced Indiwool Denim — the world’s first 100% Indigo-dyed Wool Denim. Developed and patented in India, this pioneering textile is crafted from locally reared wool in Kullu and Dharamshala using plasma technology, which significantly reduces water usage while enhancing durability and texture.
This innovation not only advances the dialogue between technology and craftsmanship but also revitalizes India’s indigenous wool ecosystem, positioning Indiwool Denim as a new benchmark in sustainable textile engineering.

A Celebration of Dualities
At the core of “Ode to Hokusai” lies Gupta’s philosophy of bold experimentation and fearless individuality. Each garment explores the interplay between structure and fluidity, science and soul, and precision and emotion. From reimagined skirts and sculptural bodices to fluid drapes that move like second skin, every silhouette captures Hokusai’s essence — the coexistence of chaos and calm.
Speaking about the inspiration behind his collection, Anurag Gupta shared, “Hokusai’s art captures both chaos and calm, a duality I’m deeply drawn to in my work. ‘Ode to Hokusai’ is my exploration of that balance — where art meets science, and every silhouette becomes an expression of movement, memory, and fearless individuality.”

Redefining Sustainable Luxury
With this collection, Anurag Gupta reinforces his vision of fashion as a living art form — one that thrives on absurdity, intellect, and constant experimentation. His collaboration with IIT Delhi and IndigoTex marks a significant leap forward in sustainable luxury, redefining how innovation and tradition can coexist in the modern Indian design landscape.
