Crafting Love Stories into Celebrations: Damini Oberoi’s Way

When most people see weddings as events, Damini Oberoi sees them as stories waiting to be told. The Founder & CEO of Q Events and Weddings has turned her passion for design and detail into one of India’s most admired luxury wedding brands. Recently honoured as one of ET Panache Women of the Year 2025 at the WOW Awards Asia 2025, Damini is proving that world-class creativity isn’t bound by geography — it can rise from Pune and make its mark on the global stage. With every celebration she curates, she blends tradition, innovation, and emotion, ensuring memories that last far beyond the wedding day.

In this exclusive conversation, Damini shares her journey, challenges, defining milestones, and vision for Q Events and Weddings.

1. You’ve built Q Events and Weddings into a celebrated brand — what first drew you into the world of weddings and events?

I come from a hospitality background; my parents are hoteliers, and I grew up watching my mother transform hotels and our home with décor and design. After planning my brother’s wedding, I discovered my knack for it — an eye for detail, organization, and patience. Coming from a Punjabi family, celebration has always been at the heart of life. The joy of seeing two families come together to mark new beginnings is not only beautiful but deeply inspiring, and that’s what drew me to build Q Events into what it is today.

2. Looking back, what were the biggest challenges in your early years, and how did they shape your journey as an entrepreneur?

In the early years, building a trusted vendor network while managing long hours and blurred personal–professional boundaries was tough. Over time, I learnt the importance of building a strong team, delegating, and prioritizing balance — essential for long-term creativity and clarity.

Another challenge was proving that talent isn’t defined by geography. Coming from Pune, we were often compared to planners from Mumbai or Delhi. My focus was on breaking that perception and showing that world-class creativity can emerge from anywhere. Today, with a portfolio of weddings across India and internationally, including London, Q Events is proud to be benchmarked alongside the country’s best.

3. Over time, weddings have shifted from traditional setups to curated experiences. How has your own approach evolved with this change?

Luxury weddings today are about more than grandeur; they’re about crafting personal, seamless experiences across cultures and destinations. My approach begins with understanding each family’s traditions and values, then designing celebrations that honor heritage while embracing modern touches.

I see weddings as the intersection of logistics and storytelling. On one side, they demand precision in operations and execution; on the other, they are deeply emotional milestones. My dual background allows me to balance both — ensuring events run flawlessly while reflecting each couple’s unique story in a meaningful, authentic way.

4. Was there a particular project or wedding that you consider a turning point for Q Events and Weddings?

A defining moment came in 2019 with a wedding of 1,200 guests on a sprawling lawn. The setup featured a floral mandap framed by three giant peacocks, bougainvillaea-draped ceilings, and warm bulb lighting that left guests in awe. The design was later recreated by others, which I came to see as a compliment, although it had bothered me at first — proof it had made an impact.

It was also our first wedding featured in an international magazine, a milestone that opened doors to bigger opportunities. Since then, weddings on a cruise, in Udaipur, and in London have reinforced Q Events as a brand delivering world-class experiences both in India and abroad.

5. As a woman leading in a highly competitive industry, what values or philosophies have guided your growth?

I grew up hearing my parents say, “When it comes to weddings, lead with excitement and execute with experience.” That philosophy has stayed with me. For every client, it’s their first wedding or event, and I believe we must be just as excited as they are.

This has shaped my approach to create unique experiences for every celebration. No two weddings we’ve done have ever repeated the same design — not even my own work. Another guiding principle for me is that competition is a distraction; I prefer to focus on innovation and originality. And at the core of everything I do are trust and integrity. They are non-negotiable in every interaction and the foundation of how I’ve built and grown in this industry.

6. What are your future plans for Q Events and Weddings, and how do you envision the brand growing in the coming years?

The future of Q Events is about pushing boundaries — blending creativity, culture, and storytelling on a global scale. I want to create celebrations that are visually stunning yet deeply personal, with every element reflecting the couple’s journey.

Whether through multi-day destination weddings, sustainable design, or immersive guest experiences, our goal is to set new benchmarks in the world of luxury weddings. Even though we’re Pune-based, we aim to prove that world-class creativity can come from anywhere and position Q Events as a global name in wedding design and execution.
