Mithun Manhas to Take Over as President of BCCI

Mithun Manhas is set to take charge as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), with his name emerging as the sole nomination for the post after the filing deadline closed on Sunday.

The position has remained vacant since Roger Binny stepped down in August, with vice-president Rajeev Shukla handling responsibilities in an interim capacity. Alongside Manhas, another former cricketer is expected to join the BCCI’s top brass. According to media reports, ex-India spinner and current Karnataka State Cricket Association president Raghuram Bhat is likely to take over as the board’s new treasurer.

Manhas has been closely involved in cricket administration in recent years. He currently serves on a BCCI-appointed sub-committee overseeing the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association. A native of Jammu, he moved from Delhi to J&K in 2015 before retiring in 2016. Since then, he has worked in multiple coaching roles, including stints with IPL franchises Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans, and as a batting consultant for Bangladesh’s Under-19 side.

During his two-decade domestic career, Manhas compiled an impressive record: 157 first-class matches yielding 9,714 runs, 130 List A games with 4,126 runs, and 91 T20 appearances in which he scored 1,170 runs.

His elevation to the top post was reportedly discussed at an informal meeting in Delhi on Saturday, attended by ICC chairman Jay Shah, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, vice-president Rajeev Shukla, DDCA president Rohan Jaitley, and former secretary Niranjan Shah.

The elections for BCCI office bearers are scheduled to be conducted at the board’s annual general meeting in Mumbai on September 28. Unless fresh nominations are filed, the decisions made in Delhi are expected to be ratified.

In the reshuffle, Saikia is likely to continue as secretary, Shukla will retain the vice-president’s role, while current treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia is expected to move to joint secretary in place of Rohan Desai. Former Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah is tipped to join the Apex Council, and Mizoram’s Khairul Jamal Majumdar may be inducted into the IPL Governing Council.
