Celebrated vocalist and Padma Shri awardee Shubha Mudgal will perform “Paavas Prasang: A Thematic Presentation of Compositions Depicting the Monsoon” at Mumbai’s Royal Opera House. Curated and performed by Mudgal, the concert explores the rich musical and emotional landscapes of the monsoon season through Indian classical and semi-classical compositions.
The monsoon, or Varsha Ritu, has long inspired Indian art, literature, and music. Compositions in forms such as khayal, thumri, dadra, kajri, and jhoola reflect the season’s joy, longing, and renewal. Mudgal’s performance will feature iconic pieces including Dekho Mai Sawan Dulhe Aayo and Sakhi Chalo Ri Kadamb Tare, accompanied by Aneesh Pradhan (tabla), Sudhir Nayak (harmonium), and Siddharth Padiyar (dholak).
Mudgal and Pradhan are frequent collaborators with Avid Learning and the Royal Opera House, having previously contributed to programs such as Living Traditions and Tehzeeb-e-Tawaif, highlighting their deep engagement with India’s classical music heritage.
The Royal Opera House, India’s only surviving opera house, continues to promote traditional and cross-genre performing arts, providing audiences with enriching musical experiences.
