TuneCore India, the independent development partner for self-releasing artists and part of global digital music company Believe, is celebrating its five-year anniversary. Since launching in 2020, the platform has supported Indian artists in building global careers and reshaped the country’s music landscape.
Over the past five years, TuneCore has helped unlock international distribution for independent musicians, enabling artists from diverse backgrounds and languages to share their music worldwide.
To commemorate the milestone, TuneCore has released a detailed report highlighting the growth of independent music in India. The report reveals how artists across genres such as hip-hop, indie pop, electronic, and folk are shaping the country’s musical identity.
Akhila Shankar, Head of TuneCore, South Asia, said, “This isn’t just about numbers—it’s about what independent artists have achieved. We’re celebrating the growth of independent music in India not just as a trend, but as a part of the cultural zeitgeist.”
Vivek Raina, Managing Director, Believe India, added, “Independent music is no longer the alternative—it’s the main stage. Over the last five years, TuneCore has been instrumental in helping Indian artists take charge of their creative journeys, build sustainable careers, and reach audiences across the globe. At Believe, we are proud to back a platform that champions artist autonomy and fuels the cultural and economic growth of India’s music ecosystem. This is just the beginning—we’re committed to making India a global powerhouse for independent music.”
Key Highlights from TuneCore India’s Report:
- Global Reach: One in every 20 streams for Indian artists comes from outside India, with the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. as top international markets.
- TuneCore Accelerator: Over 64,000 tracks from Indian artists have been released through the program, generating more than 13 billion streams.
- Regional Diversity: Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Urdu, and Tamil are among the top languages represented.

Akhila Shankar further added, “This milestone isn’t just about TuneCore. It’s about a movement that belongs to the artists of India. Our job is to amplify them—loud, local, and limitless.”
