As part of the 10th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21, the Uttar Pradesh government is organizing yoga sessions at over 4,000 locations across the state. The initiative aims to encourage physical and mental well-being by promoting the regular practice of yoga.
To build momentum, the state will observe a “Yoga Week” from June 15 to 21. This week-long campaign will feature mass yoga demonstrations, workshops, seminars, and cultural competitions such as essay writing, slogan contests, and rangoli-making across districts, tehsils, blocks, and village panchayats.
According to Ranjan Kumar, Principal Secretary of AYUSH, 5,000 trained yoga instructors are ready to lead these sessions. AYUSH colleges and educational institutions are also playing a key role in organizing events and encouraging public participation.
On June 21, the main celebration will take place with large-scale yoga demonstrations held simultaneously across all districts. A special “Yoga Sangam” program is planned for each district to mark the occasion.
Uttar Pradesh is also supporting the national initiative to set up 1,000 yoga parks across India. Three yoga parks will be developed in each divisional district and two in other districts, with help from local urban bodies and panchayats.
In a unique move, the government will combine yoga with environmental efforts by hosting sessions near rivers, lakes, Amrit Sarovars, and parks, alongside tree plantation drives.
The celebrations will conclude on June 21 with a certificate and prize distribution ceremony to recognize active participants, reinforcing the state’s commitment to a healthier and more sustainable future.
