Satyajit Ramdas Padhye: Breathing Life into Puppets and the Event Industry

As India’s foremost ventriloquist, puppeteer, and puppet-maker, Satyajit Ramdas Padhye has spent nearly twenty years refining his craft and bringing stories to life through inanimate characters. Featured in the 11th edition of Entertainers Connect, Satyajit shares what this milestone means to him, how he stays innovative, and what’s on the horizon for his art form.

1) What does being a part of the edition of 11th Entertainers Connect mean to you? And how do you see it levelling up your work and boosting your presence in the industry?

Entertainers Connect stands as a premier platform for event planners to discover a diverse range of entertainment options. It has established itself as an industry-leading brand, and its effective promotion of artists is a significant factor. I have been an integral part of this platform since its inception and have personally benefited from its services. Numerous event companies have reached out to me as a result of my involvement.

2) What inspired you to choose this path as your profession? And now that you’ve spent time in the industry, what shifts or positive differences have you witnessed over time?

I have dedicated nearly two decades to my roles as a ventriloquist, puppeteer, and puppet maker. I am delighted that due to Entertainers Connect, individuals have begun exploring my unique art form within the experimental and marketing industries. This development brings me immense joy, as it allows me to experiment and create exceptional experiences for audiences.

3) How do you stay relevant and innovative in such a dynamic and evolving entertainment industry?

One of the key strategies for staying relevant and innovative is to customise my art form for the experiential and marketing industries.

4) What’s next for you? Are there any specific projects, formats, or collaborations you’re aiming to explore?

I am particularly interested in establishing an international puppetry festival. I believe that this intellectual property would thrive with the support of renowned event planners in the industry. I am confident that such a festival would provide unique entertainment options for entire families.

5) What’s your go-to trick for winning over a tough crowd? Do you have a mantra or phrase that you say to yourself before every performance?

During a corporate event, I encountered a situation where the previous stand-up comedian’s performance had failed to captivate the audience due to the presence of starters and liquor. I successfully addressed this challenge and delivered an engaging performance.

6) What advice or message would you give to aspiring artists?

To be a part of the live entertainment industry is difficult, as it takes years to master your art. Also, anything can go wrong even if you have planned everything. So, go and check the smallest details of your act and audience, and take a proper brief from the client.

With creativity that pushes boundaries and a mission to globalise puppetry, Satyajit Ramdas Padhye continues to inspire as a performer, storyteller, and cultural innovator.
