Straightline Solutions, an events and experiential marketing company based in Kolkata and the exclusive marketer for Discovery Network in Eastern and North Eastern India, has managed the Filmfare Awards Bangla for five years. In an exclusive interview with EVENTFAQS Media, Debangshu Dasgupta, Founder & Director of Straightline Solutions shared insights on the event’s consistent success, emphasizing detailed planning, efficient execution, and industry collaborations. For the Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards West Bengal, a new IP, the team incorporated region-specific elements to differentiate it from other Filmfare properties. Sponsorships and partnerships were key, with focused strategies helping to secure strong collaborations. Looking ahead, Straightline Solutions is working on new projects and possible expansions in the events space.
Managing a high-profile event like the Filmfare Awards Bangla for five consecutive years is no small feat. What are the key factors that contributed to its continued success?
I believe the most significant factor was to avoid treating the event as just another award show for the Bangla film industry. Our aim was to re-establish Filmfare as the most credible and entertaining award show in this market. We always envisioned the event as the grandest celebration of films in the entire country, rather than limiting it to the periphery of West Bengal.
Another key element contributing to our success was the consistency we maintained over the past five years. The team at Straightline has consistently strived to elevate the entertainment value of the event year after year. We left no stone unturned in creating a larger-than-life infrastructure to give an immersive experience to the on-ground and on-air audiences.
Lastly, the active participation of the Bangla film fraternity, the unwavering support from our advertisers, and the involvement of our digital and TV broadcasting partners have all made a significant impact in scaling the event.
Filmfare, as an intellectual property, relies significantly on social media for its promotions. In Kolkata, there are approximately 11 crore people, with around 5 crore of them using the internet. The content shared through the Filmfare accounts has reached about 4 crore people alone. This figure does not even include the cumulative reach of SVF(our digital partner) and various influencers, which would increase the total number even further.
With Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards West Bengal being a new IP, what unique elements did you incorporate and how does it differ from other Filmfare properties?
Films are fundamentally about stories and glamour. This combination makes it incredibly appealing to the people of our country. While the Filmfare Awards focus on the skill of storytelling and bringing characters to life, the Glamour & Style Award celebrates the charisma and allure of celebrities.
The inaugural Glamour and Style event was specifically designed to honour the stars of the Bangla film industry, rather than the characters they portray in movies. It is an event dedicated to celebrating charm and authenticity. This was a night when the stars shone down and were recognized for their inimitable grace and charisma.
The event is designed for an intimate gathering of industry members, serving as the perfect curtain raiser for the Filmfare Awards.

Sponsorship and partnerships play a crucial role in large-scale events. How did you secure collaborations for these events, and what strategies worked best?
At Straightline, we understand the distinction between the arts and commercial arts, which I believe is our greatest strength. We have established successful partnerships with brands such as Joy Personal Care, Manforce, Lalbaba Rice, Royal Enfield, McDowell’s Soda, Tanishq, Attica Gold, The Bhawanipur Education Society, Berger Paints, Century Ply, Shyam Steel , and Nimulid. Through content partnership deals, we have integrated their narratives through on-ground, on-air, and in-script integrations. These brands recognize the value of associating with a property as prestigious as Filmfare and the rub-off it has on their respective brands. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their unwavering trust in us.
In our partnership with broadcasters, we have ZEE Bangla as our television partner and SVF as our digital partner. This collaboration allows us to reach both households and millennial audiences who consume content on their mobile phones. I am extremely delighted by the social buzz we have seen so far in anticipation of the upcoming telecast.
After successfully executing these prestigious events, what’s next for Straightline Solution? Are there any new projects or expansions in the pipeline?
We are currently working behind the scenes on our next set of intellectual properties (IPs) and events. It has become essential to strengthen our team to ensure the success of these events, as we are rapidly expanding to accommodate them.
All I can share is that we are entering the wedding business, and we see tremendous potential in this market. There is a gap that can be filled by a structured approach offered by a professional event agency with a decade of experience in planning and executing high-profile events. Our service will not be a run-of-the-mill wedding planning service; instead, we aim to be an enabler that transforms your dream wedding into reality. We will provide comprehensive, end-to-end services for what is likely the most important event in an individual’s life.
