In an escalating battle for dominance beyond food delivery and quick commerce, Swiggy has launched Scenes, a platform for discovering and booking live experiences. This move comes weeks after Zomato introduced District, a standalone app dedicated to event ticketing and experiences, marking a new front in the rivalry between the two food delivery giants.

With Scenes, Swiggy allows users to book tickets for events like New Year’s Eve parties, live music shows, DJ nights, and other experiences hosted by partner restaurants—all within the Swiggy app. Unlike Zomato’s District, which is a standalone app offering a broader range of services such as movie ticket bookings, Scenes is fully integrated into Swiggy’s superapp ecosystem and focuses exclusively on live events and experiences.

This launch is part of Swiggy’s broader diversification strategy aimed at exploring new revenue streams and deepening user engagement. The Bengaluru-based company has reported a sharp increase in its Monthly Transacting Users (MTU) during Q2 FY25, adding one million new users to reach a total base of 17.1 million. This represents a 7% quarter-on-quarter growth and a 19% increase compared to the same period last year.

Swiggy is also doubling down on its premium services with the introduction of One BLCK, an invite-only membership designed for high-value users seeking concierge-like perks. This is a feature currently absent from Zomato’s offerings. The membership includes benefits such as faster food deliveries with an on-time guarantee, complimentary cocktails, drinks, or desserts when dining out, and priority access to Swiggy’s top-tier customer care for personalized support. By targeting affluent users willing to pay for exclusive services, Swiggy aims to strengthen its foothold in the premium consumer segment.

The rivalry between Gurugram-based Zomato and Bengaluru-based Swiggy continues to heat up as both companies expand their presence across food delivery, quick commerce, dining out, and event ticketing. While Zomato’s District has a broader scope, Swiggy’s Scenes leverages its superapp integration to enhance convenience for users. Currently, Scenes is available only in Bengaluru, with the company yet to disclose its expansion plans or additional offerings.
