The California-based global collective of forward-thinking selectors and producers, Soulection, first came to India in 2016 and returns 14 months later with an Indian edition of The Sound of Tomorrow, their popular party series held in Los Angeles.
Featuring Soulection mainstays DJ Sosupersam and The Whooligan, The Sound of Tomorrow, presented by Boxout,fm, will be held at Auro on December 1.
Soulection began as a university radio station, KBeach radio at the California State University 2011, and today has evolved into a weekly radio show that broadcasts to over 100 countries via Apple’s Beats 1. Inspired by Los Angeles’ ‘Low-End Theory Nights’, and radio DJs in the vein of Gilles Peterson and Benji B, the weekly show injects a weekly fix of soul-cleansing, meditative hip-hop beats into listeners’ lives.
But Soulection is more than just a radio show. It is now a record label, a clothing brand, a club experience and even its own sub-genre of “Future beats, eclectic soul, forgotten gems and timeless sounds”. It is a great community platform for connecting dots between listeners, fans and musicians alike.
Their immensely popular party series, The Sound of Tomorrow offers a tangible manifestation of their ethos, and their collective of DJs, artists and producers represent some of this era’s finest creative talent. For their Delhi showcase, they are represented by two of their finest – DJ Sosupersam and The Whooligan.
DJ Sosupersam is a native Los Angeles DJ, vocalist, and performing artist, highly sought after for her talents behind the turntables and her style in front of them. She seamlessly bridges new underground sounds with rap, classic hip-hop, R&B, future bass, and indie favourites.
The Whooligan aka Julio Galvez is the director of worldwide bookings and partnerships for Soulection. He is also a DJ on the roster with over 15 years of performance experience. They will be supported by boxout.fm’s Rohan Kale.
For Boxout.fm co-founder DJ MoCity, this will be a special gig. “Having promoted Soulection shows in various countries over the last few years it only made sense to end the year with an official showcase to tie in their influence to growing a community through online radio. We hope to showcase how radio has a huge impact on building a local community as proven by the Soulection,” he says.
