An invigorating session followed after a break for lunch on day 2 of EEMAGINE’15. A panel discussion took place amongst, Matteo Carvino, Italy based events and interior designer, Martin D’costa and Samit Garg. The session was called ‘Emerging trends in personal (social) events’. The session began with D’Costa explaining some differences in the way social events are looked at in India and abroad. Having worked with Matteo Carvino for wedding events in Italy, D’costa managed to outline some unique aspects in the Carvino’s work, which majorly dealt with creating stories that unfolded through the event.

Garg took audiences through various case studies of Carvino’s work in which he had transformed venues both traditional and unconventional into spaces of interactive design for major social and high-end events. Through every case study the most important trend that emerged was that of creating a story and making the design of a space interactive for experiential for the guests.

Carvino stressed that, “It is most important to remember that your hero is the guest, not your decor and not the talent / performers that evening. The guest is the one who is at the centre and all the experiences are designed to include them.”

Another important aspect that was touched upon was the importance of lighting in the creation of spaces / while conceptualising decor. Carvino stressed on its importance by saying, “You rather have a well lit simple design element rather than a magnificent design that has bad lighting.”

D’costa put this further in perspective by stating how lighting was an ‘add-on’ thought in the designing and decor here in India, when in reality it needs to be an important element from the concept stage.
